When the storms are over, there will be a lot of clearing up to be done. There seems to be a national epidemic of trampolines caught in trees for a start. Trees themselves have been damaged, high hedges, tall structures of all sorts will have been in for a battering. There will probably be quite a few roofs that aren't in quite the right place any more too.

Where else could you get such an uninterrupted view of the scenery around Bridgend? This photograph was taken from the platform of a Genie Z135/70 while carrying out its 6 monthly LOLER examination.

This van mounted Versalift 36NF came to us in a fairly sorry state. A long period without maintenance and a lack of grease to lubricate the slew bearing had caused it to wear past the manufacturer' permitted tolerance.

With new bearing fitted and lubricated, the rest of the machine was submitted to a thorough examination to check for other worn components. None were found so a quick clean and grease of the other moving parts was all that was required.

Finally, a load test and LOLER examination were carried out so that the platform could get back to work and earning money for its owner again.

This repair was carried out for a customer across the bridge in Somerset. The image shows their machine in our Chepstow workshop with its booms out.

Work carried out to this 3.5 tonne truck mounted access platform included replacing the extend and retract chains. The guidelines from CTE stipulate mandatory replacement of chains after ten years. We also carried out a full boom strip and inspection of all internal parts along with the fitting of new chains.

The work was finished with a load test and thorough examination, and issue of a new LOLER certificate.

The platform is now on its way back to Weston-Super-Mare, ready to put back into service. This Genie S40 has undergone a complete service and cosmetic refresh in our workshops and is now ready to take on new challenges with a new owner.

Built in 1996, it has completed just 4394 hours of service. The timing belt has been replaced, a thorough test carried out and a new 6 month LOLER certificate comes with the machine.
